School to Home Connection Folders

Stepping Stone School is excited to announce a wonderful addition to our Platinum Learning for Life Curriculum™ for our Advanced Pre-Kindergarten classes: School to Home Connection Folders! The addition of these at-home learning and communication tools is supported by research which states, “Meaningful family engagement in children’s early learning supports school readiness and later academic success. Parental involvement is a critical element of high-quality early care and education” (Snow, 2012).

School to Home Connection folders provide an educational link between learning which occurs in the classroom and at home. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) states, “Regular communication between families and programs and between individual teachers and families reinforces the complementary roles that families and early childhood programs play in supporting children’s development.” School to Home Connection Folders enable families to communicate with their child’s teacher and receive individualized learning support from our professionals! These optional activities encourage participation as a special bonding experience between parents and their soon-to-be Kindergartener.

Each week, teachers provide children with learning resources focusing on specific academic skills necessary for Kindergarten. Folders are created based on the needs of each individual child in accordance with his or her current knowledge and ability levels and provide continued academic growth for children over the course of the school year. School to Home Connection Folders provide families with activities relating to:

  • Name Writing: Children practice writing first and last names correctly. Once this skill is mastered, they move onto the memorization of additional personal information (birthdate, phone number, address)
  • Math Practice: the identification of two dimensional and three dimensional shapes, number recognition, counting practice, patterning skills, and basic addition and subtraction
  • Letter of the Week Practice: letter identification, letter writing, and letter sound relationships
  • Reading/Writing Practice: Pre-reading and Pre-writing skills, rhyming, beginning sounds, read-aloud practice, recognizing beginning sight words

Stepping Stone School is committed to make every effort to serve our families as we work together to prepare our children for Kindergarten.
